In a significant push towards ethical business practices, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has called on businesses to take accountability for human rights issues. The NHRC stressed the need for regular policy updates and alignment with global human rights standards.
During a recent meeting titled 'Safeguarding Dignity: Human Rights Due Diligence across Supply Chains,' NHRC's acting chairperson Vijaya Bharathi Sayani underscored the critical importance of respecting human rights, including labor rights, within business operations. She pointed out that most Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are directly related to human rights obligations.
The meeting yielded key recommendations, such as implementing comprehensive training programs for stakeholders, enhancing supply chain transparency through mapping, and embedding human rights processes within these chains. The NHRC emphasized that adopting these practices is essential for businesses to operate sustainably and ethically.
