Knife Attack in Champs-Elysees Days Before Paris Olympics

A police officer was wounded in a knife attack in Paris on Thursday in the high-end Champs-Elysees neighbourhood, authorities confirmed.

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin revealed on X that the incident occurred in the 8th arrondissement while police were responding to a call. Following the stabbing, Paris police chief Laurent Nunez reported that the assailant was neutralized after threatening and stabbing officers. Nunez defended the police's actions as proportionate, given the threat to their lives.

An unnamed official disclosed that the assailant survived and further threats were prevented by police. This attack follows a Monday incident where a French soldier was stabbed in eastern Paris. France remains on its highest security alert ahead of the Paris Games, with new strict security measures imposed starting Thursday.
