French police arrested a man on terrorism charges on Friday, accused of attempting to murder a taxi driver with a knife while professing support for the Palestinian militant group Hamas, according to a source from the terrorism prosecutor's office. France is on high alert as it prepares to host the Paris Olympic Summer Games starting July 26.

The suspect, known to authorities for previous radical behavior, brandished a gun and attacked a taxi driver in Le Mans on Tuesday night. The driver was bound and attacked with a knife before managing to escape and seek help. The attacker was arrested early Friday in Yvelines, west of Paris.

The arrest comes amid a series of unrelated security incidents in Paris this week, including a stabbing of a police officer and a soldier at separate locations, and a car ramming into a cafe terrace. The suspect now faces charges of terrorism, attempted murder, and kidnapping.
