Impassioned scenes of grief unfolded as scores of people followed the funeral cortege of martyr Bharat Lal Sahu to a crematorium in Raipur on Friday. Sahu, a 38-year-old STF constable, was among the two jawans killed in a Naxalite IED blast in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Wednesday night, which also injured four others.
The final rites were held at Rajiv Nagar Muktidham, where Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma and senior police officials bid an emotional farewell. A guard of honour was accorded to Sahu. Both Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Sharma carried the coffin on their shoulders into a police truck earlier.
The community's emotional outpouring encapsulated Sahu's brother's sentiments: "Martyrs never die, they live in people's hearts.” Amidst the grief, Sahu’s father and young children watched the proceedings, making it a deeply poignant occasion. Sahu’s younger daughter laid flowers at his coffin, creating a touching moment. The CM condemned the Naxalites and vowed to eliminate the menace soon.
