In Karachi, parents of Priya Kumari, a seven-year-old Hindu girl who vanished in 2021, staged a protest to demand her recovery. Priya went missing on August 19, 2021, during a Muharram Ashura procession near her home in Sangrar, Sindh province. Despite extensive efforts, her whereabouts remain unknown.

The heartbroken parents, Raj Kumar Pal and Veena Kumari, gathered at the Teen Talwar landmark in Karachi, urging officials to intensify the search. Their protest was temporarily called off after assurances from Sindh home minister Zia Langrove and Inspector General of Police Javed Odho. However, no significant leads have emerged even after the formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT).

The case has heightened concerns within Sindh’s Hindu community regarding the safety of their daughters. Reports indicate that abductions and forced conversions of Hindu women are not uncommon in the region, often with little support from law enforcement. According to census data, the Hindu population in Pakistan has grown from 3.5 million in 2017 to 3.8 million in 2023, making it the largest minority community in the country.
