More than 580 fake Indian currency notes valued at Rs 2.91 lakh have been confiscated, and two men arrested, as stated by the police on Sunday. The counterfeit Rs 500 notes were reportedly smuggled from Nepal into Bihar and then brought to Delhi.
Identified as Ram Pravesh and Ali Asgar, both residents of Bihar and aged 48, the suspects have been apprehended, according to police officials. Authorities had prior information regarding a gang involved in the smuggling of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) from Nepal, which were being distributed throughout different parts of India, including the Delhi-NCR region.
Following a tip-off, police arrested Pravesh on the night of July 6 at the Anand Vihar Terminal area, seizing 578 fake Rs 500 denomination notes from him. Pravesh confessed that he turned to smuggling and distributing FICNs to make quick money, as his income as a small-time construction contractor in Delhi-NCR was insufficient. He further revealed that he met Asgar in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, who disclosed that an individual named Asif is the mastermind of the FICM smuggling racket.
