The Haryana government ordered the suspension of mobile internet and bulk SMS services in Nuh for 24 hours ahead of the Braj Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra, an event marred by violence last year.
The suspension began at 6 pm Sunday and will last until 6 pm Monday, according to an order by Haryana Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Anurag Rastogi. The order cites potential tension, annoyance, and public property damage as reasons for the preventive measure.
The suspension aims to stop the spread of misinformation and rumours through social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Twitter. Tight security arrangements are in place to ensure the Yatra passes smoothly, according to Nuh Police.
Last year, two home guards were killed and at least 15 others, including several policemen, were injured when violence erupted during a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession in Nuh. A mosque attack in Gurugram the same night resulted in multiple deaths and injuries, escalating interfaith tensions.
