The Kerala government on Monday ordered a probe following reports of a migrant worker residing in a converted dog kennel in Ernakulam district.

Labour Minister V Sivankutty instructed the labour commissioner to submit a report on the incident.

The media reported that a migrant worker from West Bengal has been living in an old dog kennel, which was transformed into a room, by paying Rs 500 rent. The kennel is situated on the premises of a house owned by a local resident in Piravom.

After the news broke, police visited the location for a medical examination of the worker. However, no further action was taken as the worker expressed his preference to stay in the kennel.
