Israeli Military Orders Evacuation in Gaza Amid Intensified Conflict
The Israeli military ordered the evacuation of part of the Gaza Strip, designating it a humanitarian zone as it plans an operation against Hamas militants. Amid delicate cease-fire negotiations, Gaza's humanitarian crisis worsens with over 38,900 deaths. Prime Minister Netanyahu is in the U.S. for talks with President Biden.
The Israeli military on Monday ordered the evacuation of part of an area in the Gaza Strip it has designated a humanitarian zone, as it plans a major operation against Hamas militants embedded there. The military said Hamas has been using the area to launch rockets toward Israel.
This zone, including the eastern part of the Muwasi area in southern Gaza, is already struggling with critical shortages of sanitation and medical facilities. An estimated 1.8 million Palestinians are crowded into this stretch, living in makeshift tent camps with limited access to aid.
The announcement comes amidst delicate cease-fire negotiations aimed at ending the brutal conflict. U.S., Israeli, and other international officials remain hopeful but cautious. In the meantime, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is visiting the United States to meet President Joe Biden and address Congress, signaling Israel's desire for continued strong relations.
