GRP Nabs Suspected Train Robber in Thane District

The Government Railway Police arrested Rangaram Chowdhary, a 45-year-old suspected robber, who targeted passengers on trains in Mumbai and nearby areas. Selling stolen items in Rajasthan, Chowdhary was identified through CCTV footage. Stolen items worth over Rs 4 lakh were recovered, unveiling his lack of a prior criminal record.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) apprehended a 45-year-old suspected robber, Rangaram Chowdhary, who primarily targeted passengers on local and long-distance trains in Mumbai and surrounding areas. Authorities identified Chowdhary using footage from multiple CCTV cameras in Thane district, an official revealed on Tuesday.

According to the Government Railway Police crime branch official, Chowdhary sold the stolen items in his native state of Rajasthan. CCTV analysis at various railway stations confirmed his identity, and further investigation located his residence in Ambernath city, Thane district.

A GRP team journeyed to Chowdhary's native place and recovered stolen items worth over Rs 4 lakh. The official added that preliminary findings indicate Chowdhary did not have a prior criminal record. With Chowdhary's arrest, authorities have resolved four robbery cases on long-distance trains registered in the Kalyan and Thane areas. Investigations are ongoing to determine if Chowdhary was involved in other similar crimes.
