Civil Services Aspirant Electrocuted in Central Delhi

A 26-year-old civil services aspirant, Nilesh Rai, was electrocuted after touching an iron gate charged with electricity following heavy rains in Central Delhi's Patel Nagar. Despite efforts by bystanders, no one could help due to fear of electrocution. An FIR has been registered, and an investigation is underway.

A 26-year-old civil services aspirant was electrocuted after he touched an iron gate that had electricity running through it following heavy rains in Central Delhi's Patel Nagar area, according to police on Tuesday.

The tragic incident occurred on Monday afternoon when Nilesh Rai, an engineer and a native of Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh, stepped out of his PG accommodation to buy something.

A picture showing Rai's upper body stuck to the gate with his feet in water and wires dangling from an electric pole circulated on social media. Police said they received information at 2:43 p.m. on Monday about the incident near Power Gym, close to Patel Nagar metro station.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) M Harsha Vardhan confirmed that Rai was electrocuted after touching the iron gate on the waterlogged road. He was taken to RML Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

An FIR has been filed at Ranjit Nagar police station and forensic teams visited the spot to further investigate, added the DCP.

Atul Dua, the owner of Rai's PG, said Rai had been living there for three years while preparing for the civil services. Around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Rai went out to buy something. A passerby later informed the PG staff about the incident, but no one dared to help due to fear of electrocution.

Rai's father is an advocate, his mother a teacher, and he has two sisters. He was planning to visit home for Raksha Bandhan when this unfortunate incident took place.

When contacted by PTI, Rai's family, struggling to cope with the loss, refused to comment on the incident.
