Sudanese Forces to Engage in U.S.-Mediated Ceasefire Talks
Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, leader of the Sudanese paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), announced participation in U.S.-mediated talks set for August 14 in Switzerland. The RSF aims to achieve a comprehensive ceasefire across Sudan, prioritizing saving lives, stopping the fighting, and paving the way for a peaceful political resolution to restore civilian rule.
Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, leader of the Sudanese paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), stated early Wednesday that the RSF would participate in U.S.-mediated talks beginning August 14 in Switzerland. The goal is to achieve a comprehensive ceasefire across Sudan.
"We reaffirm our firm stance ... which is the insistence on saving lives, stopping the fighting, and paving the way for a peaceful, negotiated political solution that restores the country to civilian rule and the path of democratic transition," Dagalo added.
The announcement is seen as a significant step towards ending the ongoing conflict in Sudan and moving towards lasting peace.
