British Foreign Secretary David Lammy on Wednesday initiated a two-day visit to India aimed at driving forward the long-pending Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations and exploring avenues for enhanced bilateral cooperation, particularly in clean energy, technology, and security domains.
This trip represents the first high-level engagement between India and the UK following the installation of Prime Minister Keir Starmer's Labour government on July 5. Lammy emphasized the emerging superpower status of India and the mutual benefits of reinforced partnership.
According to a British government communiqué, Lammy seeks a 'reset' of UK-India relations, underscoring shared ambitions that span climate action, economic growth, and technological innovation. Key discussions will center on the FTA, green initiatives, and addressing New Delhi's concerns over pro-Khalistan elements in Britain.
