The Karnataka Legislative Assembly witnessed a fiery debate on Wednesday over the alleged fraudulent allotment of land plots to the wife of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA). The controversy revolves around compensatory sites allotted to Parvathi Siddaramaiah in an upscale area of Mysuru.

Despite the opposition BJP's insistence on discussing the matter, Speaker U T Khader turned down the adjournment motion notice, pointing to procedural rules and the constitution of an inquiry commission. Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil cited guidelines that restrict discussion on issues currently under adjudication by any tribunal or commission.

The opposition accused the government of using the inquiry commission as a ploy to avoid a legislative debate. The Speaker's decision to reject the motion led to a heated exchange between ruling Congress and opposition BJP members, further intensifying the political discord.
