A video purportedly depicting a handcuffed prisoner being escorted to the Taj Mahal by a policeman has gone viral on social media. The Agra police clarified on Wednesday that the prisoner was accompanied by a Himachal Pradesh officer.
The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) noted that the prisoner was denied entry to the Taj Mahal due to his handcuffed state. Syed Areeb Ahmad, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Taj Suraksha, confirmed that the circulating video is an old one.
The cop escorting the prisoner is from the Himachal Pradesh Police, as cited in media reports. The Himachal Pradesh police have been informed, and an investigation is active. Sources mentioned the incident took place on Tuesday, where local police and ASI staff stopped the handcuffed prisoner and his escort from entering the Taj Mahal. Locals recorded the incident, which included some objections from the accompanying policeman during the filming.
