Minister for Māori Development Tama Potaka has reaffirmed the government's dedication to supporting the aspirations of Ngāti Maniapoto. During a ministerial forum held at Parliament today, Potaka expressed gratitude to Te Nehenehenui Trust – Ngāti Maniapoto for their valuable contributions.

The forum centered around the Waiwaiā Accord, which outlines the framework for the post-settlement relationship between Te Nehenehenui Trust and the Crown. Discussions focused on envisioning the future of this relationship and exploring collaborative opportunities.

Minister Potaka emphasized the potential benefits of an enhanced and effective mahitahi (working together) approach between Te Nehenehenui Trust and relevant Crown agencies. He described the meeting as a pivotal moment for iwi and government leaders to align priorities, seek opportunities, and strengthen the Iwi-Crown relationship.

Looking ahead, Potaka expressed eagerness to work with Ministerial colleagues and officials to build on the forum's discussions. He highlighted the government's commitment to fulfilling Treaty obligations and fostering strong partnerships with Iwi and hapū, noting that such collaborations are vital for the prosperity of all New Zealanders.
