Oslo Gay Bar Shooter Appeals Conviction: Seeking Closure for Victims
Zaniar Matapour, convicted of murder and terrorism for a deadly shooting at an Oslo gay bar during Pride 2022, has appealed his case. Victims' lawyer expressed their disappointment as they seek closure. The attack resulted in two deaths, nine gunshot injuries, and 25 wounded individuals.
Zaniar Matapour, an Iranian-born Norwegian convicted of murder and terrorism for a deadly shooting spree during Oslo's 2022 Pride celebrations, has appealed his case, according to the victims' lawyer, Hege Salomonsen, on Thursday. The Oslo court found Matapour guilty this month amid his history as a radicalised Islamist with mental health issues.
'My clients are disappointed because they hoped for closure on the legal aspect of the case,' Salomonsen told Reuters. The tragic incident at the London Pub—an iconic location in Oslo's LGBTQ+ community—claimed two lives, left nine people with gunshot wounds, and injured 25 others.
Attempts to reach Matapour's lawyer, Marius Dietrichson, for comment on Thursday were unsuccessful.
