Tamil Nadu SEC Directs Indirect Election for Mayors in Tirunelveli and Coimbatore

The Tamil Nadu State Election Commission has instructed district election officials to ensure the indirect election of mayors in Tirunelveli and Coimbatore. The posts became vacant due to recent resignations of P M Saravanan and Kalpana Anandakumar. Additional vacant posts in other civic councils will also be filled.

The Tamil Nadu State Election Commission (SEC) on Thursday mandated district election officials to oversee the indirect election of the mayors in Tirunelveli and Coimbatore corporations.

District election officers have been instructed to convene meetings of the councils of both corporations to facilitate the election process. The mayoral positions became vacant following the resignations of P M Saravanan from Tirunelveli and Kalpana Anandakumar from Coimbatore earlier this month.

A release from the SEC also mentioned that steps should be taken to fill other vacant posts in various civic councils across the state.
