Russian Drone Fragments Found in Romania: NATO Denies Intentional Attack
Romania discovered Russian drone fragments on its territory, though NATO confirmed no intentional attack was detected on alliance soil. Russian forces launched 38 drones into Ukraine, with 25 destroyed by Ukraine’s Air Force. Some drones crossed into Romania, but no residential areas were affected.
Romanian authorities reported finding fragments of Russian drones on their territory, a development that drew a swift response from NATO, which stated there was no evidence of an intentional attack on member nations.
Ukraine's Air Force successfully neutralized 25 out of 38 drones launched by Russian forces. However, three drones veered off course and drifted into Romania. The Romanian defense ministry confirmed finding drone debris near Plauru village, across the Danube River from Ukraine's Izmail port, which faced attacks for the second consecutive night.
Echoing this, a NATO spokesperson described the drone incursions as irresponsible and potentially dangerous but stated there was no indication of a deliberate assault on NATO territory. Monitoring the situation, Finnish F-18 fighter jets, part of NATO's air policing in Romania, were dispatched. Ongoing searches have thus far found drone fragments outside residential areas, without damage to infrastructure.
Romania, sharing a 650-km border with Ukraine, has experienced similar incidents over the past year. Concurrently, Russian drones targeted Ukraine's southern Odesa and central regions, causing injuries and structural damage while Ukrainian forces managed to intercept most aerial threats.
