The EU's foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, urged Israel on Thursday to revoke its decision to outlaw the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), describing the move as nonsense. He argued that labeling UNRWA a terrorist organization targets regional stability and undermines the human dignity of its beneficiaries.

In a statement on social media platform X, Borrell stated, 'Outlawing UNRWA – and labelling it as terrorist, which it is not – amounts to targeting regional stability and human dignity of all those benefiting from the UN agency work.'

Borrell joined numerous partners in urging the Israeli government to halt this action. Earlier in the week, the Israeli parliament had preliminarily approved a bill declaring UNRWA a terrorist organization. UNRWA spokesperson Juliette Touma commented that the bill is part of a broader campaign to dismantle the agency, noting that such steps are unprecedented in the history of the United Nations.
