Top Sinaloa Cartel Leaders Arrested in Texas

Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, a leader of Mexico's Sinaloa cartel, and Joaquín Guzmán López, son of another infamous cartel leader, were arrested by U.S. authorities in Texas. Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, a longtime leader of Mexico's Sinaloa cartel, and Joaquín Guzman Lopez, son of another infamous cartel leader, were arrested by U.S. authorities in Texas on Thursday, according to the US Justice Department.

Zambada, a leader alongside Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, is considered one of the world's most powerful drug traffickers, known for running the cartel's smuggling operations while maintaining a lower profile.

The U.S. government had offered a reward of up to $15 million for information leading to Zambada's capture. The Justice Department said the men were arrested in El Paso but didn't provide details about the arrest. FBI Director Christopher Wray stated the men had overseen the trafficking of “tens of thousands of pounds of drugs into the United States, along with related violence.”
