Opposition Uproar Over Legal Guarantee on MSP

The Congress-led opposition disrupted Rajya Sabha proceedings, dissatisfied with Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's incomplete response on providing a legal guarantee for minimum support prices (MSP) to farmers. Chouhan emphasized government efforts towards farmers' welfare, while the opposition demanded more concrete guarantees.

On Friday, opposition parties led by the Congress disrupted Rajya Sabha proceedings over the issue of providing a legal guarantee on minimum support price (MSP) for farmers. Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's response did not satisfy the opposition, leading to a ruckus in the house.

The turmoil began during Question Hour when Chouhan detailed the government's welfare measures for farmers and the formation of a committee to strengthen the MSP system, but did not address the demand for a legal guarantee. Congress MPs, including Randeep Surjewala and Jairam Ramesh, protested against the incomplete reply.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar attempted to restore order, urging members to use proper channels for seeking answers and warning about taking names of disruptive members. Despite this, opposition members continued to shout slogans, causing further disruption.
