Tragedy Strikes: Three Die in Chhattisgarh Well Mishap

In Chhattisgarh's Bemetara district, three individuals tragically lost their lives due to suspected inhalation of poisonous gas after entering a well. The incident, which took place in Kua village, led to a rescue operation by the State Disaster Response Forces (SDRF). Authorities are investigating the exact cause of death.

Three individuals died on Friday afternoon in Chhattisgarh’s Bemetara district, reportedly due to inhalation of poisonous gas after entering a well, police reported on Saturday.

The tragic event occurred in Kua village under the Navagarh development block, leading to the involvement of the State Disaster Response Forces (SDRF) to recover the bodies, according to Bemetara Additional Superintendent of Police Jyoti Singh.

The victims have been identified as Aatmaram Sahu (55), Ramkumar Dhruv (45), and Rakesh Sahu (25). Preliminary information suggests Aatmaram entered the well for motor pump-pipe maintenance, fainted, and fell into the water. Relatives' attempts to rescue him resulted in further casualties.

Local authorities were alerted when nobody emerged from the well. A rescue team was summoned from Bhilai in Durg district, officials stated. The exact cause of the fatalities awaits post-mortem and forensic results.

This incident follows a pattern of similar tragedies in the region; on July 5, nine individuals died in separate well incidents in Janjgir-Champa and Korba districts, allegedly due to poisonous gas inhalation.
