Three more individuals have been arrested in connection with the killing of BSP leader K Armstrong, police reported on Sunday.
The accused, identified as N Vijayakumar (21), V Mukilan (32), and N Vignesh (27), were presented before a local court and remanded to 15 days in custody.
This latest development brings the total number of detainees in the high-profile case to 20. K Thiruvengadam, an accused in the case, was fatally shot by police on July 14 while allegedly attempting to escape during a weapon recovery operation.
K Armstrong, the state president of the Bahujan Samaj Party, was brutally murdered by a gang on July 5, prompting massive outrage and allegations from parties like AIADMK over the state's deteriorating law and order situation.
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami and BSP leader Mayawati have demanded a CBI investigation into the incident.
