Absconding SHO Arrested in Connection with Extortion Racket in UP

Panna Lal, the suspended Station House Officer of Narhi Police Station, was arrested from Gorakhpur in connection with an extortion racket targeting truck drivers on the Uttar Pradesh-Bihar border. The arrest follows a crackdown on illegal activities by police personnel, resulting in multiple suspensions and arrests.

Panna Lal, the suspended SHO of Narhi Police Station in Ballia, was apprehended from Gorakhpur on Sunday. This arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into an extortion racket being run by police personnel targeting truck drivers at the Uttar Pradesh-Bihar border, as revealed by Deputy Inspector General of Police (Azamgarh zone) Vaibhav Krishna.

The investigation began on July 25 when police unveiled the illegal operation, resulting in numerous arrests and suspensions, including that of the Korantadih police outpost personnel. Superintendent of Police Vikrant Veer confirmed efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects who are currently at large.

The case was triggered by a complaint from Inspector Sushil Kumar, leading to the registration of charges against 23 individuals under various legal provisions. The Uttar Pradesh government responded with strict actions, including a zero-tolerance policy enforced by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and subsequent property investigations of implicated officers.
