On Sunday, a protest march was held in Navi Mumbai to condemn the gang rape and murder of a housewife from Thane district earlier in the month. The protest was led by Airoli MLA Ganesh Naik, along with other local leaders, who wore black ribbons and held placards demanding justice for the victim.
The police have arrested three temple attendants in connection with the rape and murder of the 30-year-old woman. The victim's body was discovered in a valley on July 9. 'People are demanding capital punishment for the accused,' said Naik. He has written to the chief minister and deputy chief ministers, calling for a fast-track trial and the appointment of Ujjwal Nikam as a special public prosecutor.
According to authorities, the victim left her home after a dispute with her in-laws on July 6 and sought refuge in a temple in Kalyan Phata. The three temple attendants allegedly raped and murdered her before disposing of her body in a nearby valley, where it was found on July 9.
