Photos showing Surat's deputy mayor, Narendra Patil, being carried on the back of a fire official during a visit to a flood-affected area have surfaced on social media. The fire official explained that he assisted Patil due to the BJP leader's leg pain.
Despite attempts, Patil could not be reached for comments. The incident occurred during efforts to retrieve a body trapped in 35-foot-deep water in a building's basement, said sub-fire officer Sunil Chaudhary. The deputy mayor had been standing at the scene for hours, leading to leg discomfort.
Chaudhary described the terrain as muddy, necessitating the support. Photos of Patil in a white shirt and trousers riding on Chaudhary's back while crossing a small muddy patch have gone viral, bringing attention to the fire department's dedication in assisting citizens amidst heavy rains.
