Interpol's Landmark Drug Bust: Operation Lionfish Hurricane

Interpol has arrested over 200 individuals and seized $1.6 billion in illegal drugs and precursor chemicals during a two-month operation against narcotics trafficking. Operation Lionfish Hurricane, active in Europe, North America, and Africa, also confiscated stolen cars, detonators, and a homemade narco-submarine.

Interpol has successfully arrested over 200 individuals and seized illegal drugs and precursor chemicals worth an estimated $1.6 billion. This was part of a two-month operation targeting narcotics trafficking across Europe, North America, and Africa.

Dubbed Operation Lionfish Hurricane, the initiative took place in April and May and led to the confiscation of 615 tons of illegal drugs and chemicals, as well as 65 stolen cars, 30,000 commercial-grade detonators, and a homemade narco-submarine in the Guyanese jungle.

Jurgen Stock, head of the international police organization, emphasized the operation's significance by noting that the value of the seized drugs surpasses the GDP of some nations. Funded by the British Home Office, the operation involved 31 countries and marked a significant effort in the ongoing series of 'Lionfish' operations since 2013.
