Police Rescue 53 Child Beggars in Surat Operation

Police in Surat rescued 53 children who were forced into begging and rag picking. Local police and the Anti Human Trafficking Unit conducted a month-long operation to identify and rescue these children, who were then handed over to the Child Welfare Committee for rehabilitation.

Police in Surat have successfully rescued 53 children who were coerced into begging and rag picking on the city's streets. The operation, which concluded on Tuesday, was executed by 30 teams of local police and the Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU).

The month-long exercise revealed that some children were forced by parents and relatives to earn a livelihood through begging, while others were orphans or under the care of unrelated individuals. The children hailed from various states including Gujarat, Bihar, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan.

After initial processing under the Juvenile Justice Act, the rescued minors were entrusted to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) for further rehabilitation and action. This initiative is expected to bring significant changes in the lives of these young individuals.
