Kerala CM Leads High-Level Meeting Post Wayanad Landslide Tragedy

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan convened a high-level meeting to coordinate rescue operations in Wayanad following devastating landslides. The disaster has resulted in 123 fatalities and over 128 injuries. Vijayan reviewed rescue operations, coordination with central agencies, and the state of relief camps during the meeting at the Disaster Management Authority office.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday convened a high-level meeting to coordinate rescue operations in Wayanad and discuss further steps following the massive landslides in the district that claimed the lives of at least 123 people and injured over 128.

During the meeting with top bureaucrats and senior police officers, Vijayan assessed the ongoing rescue operations and reviewed coordination with central government agencies. He also evaluated the deployment of disaster response forces and the health and safety precautions in the relief camps, according to a statement issued by his office.

The meeting took place at the office of the Disaster Management Authority, which oversees state-level rescue operations. The landslides caused significant destruction, demolishing houses, swelling water bodies, and uprooting trees, thereby hampering rescue efforts.
