Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, who also serves as the foreign minister, engaged in a phone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken to discuss ongoing efforts towards achieving a ceasefire in Gaza, according to a statement from Qatar's foreign ministry on Wednesday.

This discussion comes in the wake of the assassination of Hamas Chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. Qatar, along with Egypt and the United States, has stepped up as a mediator to help bring about a ceasefire in the Gaza war.
