Government Engineer Arrested for Bribe in Bhubaneswar

A government engineer in Bhubaneswar was arrested for accepting a Rs 50,000 bribe from a contractor. The arrest occurred after a trap was set by the state Vigilance Department. She had demanded the money to clear pending bills. An investigation is underway.

On Wednesday, a government engineer was arrested in Bhubaneswar for allegedly accepting a Rs 50,000 bribe from a contractor, according to an official statement.

The assistant engineer, stationed in Jatni block of Khurda district, was caught by the state Vigilance Department at her Khandagiri residence following a complaint by the contractor.

The engineer had demanded the bribe to settle the contractor's outstanding bills. Simultaneous searches were conducted at her in-laws' house in Dhenkanal, her paternal house in Bhubaneswar, and her office. A case has been registered, and the investigation is ongoing.
