A Tamil Nadu fisherman lost his life and another has gone missing after their boat capsized mid-sea following a collision with a Sri Lankan Navy ship, according to a senior official on Thursday.
The incident took place when the Sri Lankan Navy tried to detain the men for 'illegal fishing.' Four fishermen fell into the sea, with two later detained by Lankan authorities, while 59-year-old Malaisamy reportedly died and another person went missing.
Chief Minister M K Stalin expressed his condolences and announced a Rs 10 lakh solatium for Malaisamy's family. He criticized the union government for inaction, stating that such incidents could have been avoided with appropriate measures at the embassy level.
