A 17-year-old boy faced an English court on Thursday, charged with murdering three young girls in a knife attack during a summer dance class that has shocked the nation and ignited violent protests. Axel Rudakubana was first presented at Liverpool Magistrates' Court for Monday's incident at a "Taylor Swift yoga and dance workshop" in Southport.

Rudakubana is facing three counts of murder, 10 counts of attempted murder, and possession of a bladed article. Following this, he appeared at Liverpool Crown Court, where he covered his face with a grey sweatshirt and did not speak to confirm his name. Judge Andrew Menary did not impose reporting restrictions on Rudakubana's identity, making it public for the first time.

Large disturbances erupted in Southport after misinformation spread on social media, falsely claiming the suspect was a radical Islamist migrant. Police clarified that the attack was not terrorism-related and that Rudakubana was born in Britain. Among the wounded were eight children, and two have been discharged from the hospital.
