The Delhi High Court announced it will hear a plea on August 5, which seeks action against a contractor and officials from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) for their alleged negligence that resulted in the deaths of a woman and her three-year-old son, who fell into a waterlogged drain.
Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela declined an urgent request to list the petition, filed by Jhunnu Lal Srivastava, for hearing on Friday. The tragic incident occurred on July 31 in East Delhi's Ghazipur, where the woman, Tanuja, and her son, Priyansh, drowned in an under-construction drain.
The plea also demands compensatory measures, policy changes to prevent similar incidents, and a comprehensive safety audit of ongoing drain construction projects. The petition has named the DDA, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Delhi Police, and the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs as respondents.
