A court in Pune has canceled a non-bailable warrant issued against quota activist Manoj Jarange, who is in the spotlight for his role in the Maratha quota issue. Jarange was implicated in a 2013 cheating case after failing to appear in court on July 23.
Appearing before the judicial magistrate on Friday, Jarange's lawyer, Harshad Nimbalkar, successfully moved an application to cancel the warrant. The court granted the request, effectively nullifying the previous order.
The original case filed under sections 420 and 406 of the Indian Penal Code involved a financial dispute over payments for staging the play 'Shambhuraje.' Jarange, along with co-accused, had allegedly defaulted on part of an agreed Rs 30 lakh payment in 2012, prompting the legal action.
