In a notable appeal, Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan wrote to President Droupadi Murmu on Friday, urging the inclusion of regional languages in all official notifications related to constitutional appointees.
Sandhwan pointed out that the recent notification announcing the appointment of Gulab Chand Kataria as the governor of Punjab was solely read in English and Hindi.
'During the oath ceremony of the governor of Punjab, the notification issued by your secretariat was in English and Hindi alone,' Sandhwan stated in his letter. 'The omission of Punjabi has disappointed and concerned the people of Punjab. While we uphold the importance of English and Hindi, it's crucial to honor our nation's linguistic diversity,' he added.
Emphasizing the cultural richness regional languages bring, Sandhwan proposed that future notifications should include regional languages alongside English and Hindi, promoting inclusivity and respect.
