C P Moideen, a senior Maoist figure implicated in 36 criminal cases, was arrested by the Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Kerala police from Alappuzha district on Friday.
A statement from the State Police Media Centre (SPMC) revealed that the 49-year-old Moideen was captured in Mararikulam while on a KSRTC bus journey. The police received tips indicating he would be traveling from Kollam to Thrissur.
Moideen, in charge of the CPI(Maoist) in Kerala, had been evading arrest since 2014. The police connected him and three others to operating a banned organization and being armed at Ambayathod junction in Kannur district. Additional details indicate Moideen had lost his right hand handling explosives during operations in Naxalbari. His brother, C P Jaleel, another Maoist leader, was killed by police in 2019. Two other brothers, C P Rasheed and C P Ismail, also face charges related to Maoist activities.
