Eight persons, including local leaders from BJP, AAP, and Congress, have been booked in Gujarat's Narmada district for allegedly diverting food grains meant for the poor into the open market, a senior police official announced on Friday.
An FIR was lodged a week ago, leading to the arrest of two individuals, while six remain at large, according to Superintendent of Police Prashant Sumbe. Among the absconding are BJP's Manish Shah, AAP's Shailendra Vasava, and Congress' Anand Vasava.
The racket was exposed after a revenue officer, acting on a tip-off, raided a private godown in Sagbara village, uncovering nearly 10,000 kilograms of food grains and a mini-truck. Investigations revealed that Shah hired Anand Vasava and others to facilitate the illegal diversion. Shah has since been suspended from his role within the BJP.
