Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud underscored the critical role of Lok Adalats in mitigating the overwhelming burdens faced by courts, during a recent address at the Supreme Court.

Chandrachud pointed out that Lok Adalats serve as alternative forums for resolving disputes amicably, thereby preventing the drawn-out processes typical of conventional court cases. He emphasized that no appeals could be made against agreements reached in these forums.

The CJI also noted the collaborative nature of Lok Adalat panels, comprising both judges and advocates, which he believes fosters greater ownership and procedural understanding. Stressing the national role of the Supreme Court, Chandrachud highlighted ongoing efforts to diversify and include officers from across India in the judiciary.
