Controversy Erupts Over Proposed Amendments to Waqf Board Autonomy
AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi accuses the NDA government of planning to introduce a bill that would undermine the autonomy of waqf boards, attributing this move to the BJP's long-standing opposition to waqf properties. Owaisi warns of administrative chaos and loss of religious freedom if the amendments are enacted.

Amid media reports that the Centre is likely to introduce a bill to curb the 'unfettered' powers of waqf boards, AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi has alleged that the NDA government aims to strip the waqf board of its autonomy.
Owaisi claimed that the BJP has been against waqf boards and waqf properties 'from the beginning,' citing attempts to undermine their existence in line with its 'Hindutva agenda.' He argued that the proposed amendments signify the Modi government's intention to interfere with the management of waqf properties, violating religious freedom.
The Hyderabad MP warned that changes to the establishment and composition of waqf boards would result in 'administrative chaos' and the loss of autonomy. He also expressed concerns over proposed government surveys of disputed properties, fearing biased outcomes. Owaisi urged BJP allies to reconsider their stance, accusing the government of circumventing parliamentary processes by informing the media before Parliament.
