British Prime Minister to Address Rising Violence Amid Anti-Immigration Protests

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will hold an emergency meeting with police chiefs on Monday following days of violent anti-immigration protests. The unrest has seen buildings and vehicles torched, and hotels housing asylum seekers targeted, leading to over 420 arrests.

The violence was sparked by misinformation surrounding a knife attack in Southport, where three girls were killed. Radicals falsely claimed the attacker was a recently arrived Islamist, although police confirmed he was British-born and ruled out terrorism. Interior Minister Yvette Cooper criticized the riots for inciting racial hatred and attacking police, shops, mosques, and Asian-owned businesses.

Over the weekend, riots erupted in multiple cities including Liverpool and Belfast, as young men chanted anti-immigrant slogans. Prominent figures like Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, also known as Tommy Robinson, have been blamed for spreading disinformation. Interior Minister Cooper announced that the government would address the online amplification of tensions with social media companies.
