Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday declared his party's opposition to the Centre's proposed Bill to amend the 1995 law governing Waqf boards. Yadav accused the BJP of attempting to confiscate the rights of Muslims in the country.
The government's proposed Bill aims to bring more accountability and transparency to the functioning of Waqf boards and includes a mandate to involve women in these bodies. The Bill also requires Waqf boards to register their properties with district collectors to ascertain their actual valuation.
Yadav highlighted that the BJP's approach is to divide Hindus and Muslims. He drew parallels with the perceived removal of Anglo-Indian rights and criticized the Uttar Pradesh government's handling of property laws under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Samajwadi Party will staunchly oppose the Bill in Parliament.
