A senior ally of President Vladimir Putin arrived in Tehran on Monday for talks with Iranian leaders as the Islamic Republic weighs its response to the killing of a Hamas leader. High-ranking officials, including the president and top security personnel, will engage in crucial discussions.

Sergei Shoigu, Russia's Security Council secretary, was shown on Zvezda TV meeting Rear Admiral Ali Akbar Ahmadian, an IRGC commander serving as the Supreme National Security Council's secretary. Shoigu will also meet President Masoud Pezeshkian, according to official sources.

Though President Putin has not yet commented publicly on the recent tensions in the Middle East, senior Russian officials believe the assassination aims to disrupt peace efforts and draw the U.S. into military action. Iran has blamed Israel for the killing and vowed retribution, while Russia continues to strengthen its ties with Iran amid ongoing conflicts in Ukraine.
