Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has called for residents of West Bengal to remain peaceful and avoid provocation.
Trade between the two countries has come to a standstill, with Air India and IndiGo canceling flights to Dhaka and disruptions to bus and train services.
BSF sources confirmed the issuance of a high alert across all formations along the 4,096-km India-Bangladesh border in response to developments in Bangladesh.
