In Betul, Madhya Pradesh, local police have registered an FIR against an individual accused of issuing a death threat on social media to Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, according to a recent statement by a police official.
The threat came after the Supreme Court delivered a landmark verdict, affirming that states have the constitutional power to create sub-classifications within the Scheduled Castes for reservation purposes. This decision aims to assist those who are socio-economically backward.
The FIR includes charges under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Information Technology Act, said Ravikant Daheria, in-charge of Betul Ganj police station. Efforts to apprehend the accused, identified as Pankaj Atulkar, who had posted a threat in Hindi on Facebook, are ongoing.
