Ukraine Condemns Mali's Diplomatic Severance Amid Controversial Clashes

Ukraine has condemned Mali's hasty decision to sever diplomatic ties, citing the lack of evidence implicating Kyiv in recent clashes that resulted in the deaths of both Malian soldiers and Russian mercenaries.

The West African nation announced its decision on Sunday after Ukraine's military intelligence agency made remarks about the July fighting in northern Mali. Tuareg rebels claimed responsibility for killing 84 Russian Wagner mercenaries and 47 Malian soldiers, marking a significant defeat for Wagner forces since their involvement two years ago.

While Ukraine's foreign ministry expressed regret over Mali's severing of relations, it firmly denied any involvement in the incident. Ukraine rejected allegations of supporting international terrorism and underscored its commitment to international law and sovereignty, reserving the right to take necessary political and diplomatic actions in response. Ukrainian lawmaker Oleksandr Merezhko suggested the rupture would not significantly impact Ukraine's global relations.
