AISSC Welcomes Waqf Law Amendment for Transparency and Gender Inclusion

The All India Sufi Sajjadanashin Council (AISSC) has praised the government's initiative to amend the Waqf Boards law for greater transparency and accountability, and the mandatory inclusion of women. AISSC chairman Hazrat Syed Naseruddin Chishty demanded a separate Dargah Board. Discussions were held with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.

The All India Sufi Sajjadanashin Council welcomed the government's decision to amend the Waqf Boards law, calling it long overdue.

A new bill will be introduced in Parliament to ensure the bodies' accountability, transparency, and inclusion of women, according to sources.

AISSC chairman Hazrat Syed Naseruddin Chishty called for a separate Dargah Board, citing the absence of dargahs in the current Waqf Act. Chishty described the present Waqf Boards as dictatorial and opaque, expressing hopes for comprehensive amendments that serve all stakeholders. He plans to submit detailed recommendations after reviewing the bill.

The council met National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju to discuss their concerns, receiving assurances that all stakeholders would be consulted. Chishty condemned those opposing the amendments through divisive tactics and urged a simpler judicial process to curb corruption in Waqf Boards.

Rijiju described the meeting as fruitful, praising the Narendra Modi government's efforts for community welfare. The delegation pledged commitment to the vision of 'Viksit Bharat 2047'.
