Pankaj Atulkar, the incharge of Madhya Pradesh Bhim Sena, was arrested on Tuesday from Betul for allegedly issuing a death threat on social media to Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud. The threat was purportedly connected to the Supreme Court's recent verdict on reservations, a police official confirmed.

34-year-old Atulkar was produced before a court, which subsequently remanded him to jail, according to Ravikant Daheria, the in-charge of Ganj police station.

An FIR was lodged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Information Technology Act following Atulkar's Facebook post, in which he threatened to kill the Chief Justice for a decision that he claimed ''enslaved the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe people'' and ''violated the Constitution.''

In a landmark ruling, the Supreme Court held that states have the constitutional authority to make sub-classifications within Scheduled Castes to provide reservations for the upliftment of castes that are socially and educationally more backward.
