A district court has ordered a woman to pay Rs 15 lakh in a civil defamation suit filed by her ex-husband. The court found her actions to be defamatory, affecting his professional and personal reputation.
Presiding Judge Sunil Beniwal noted the woman's emails and chats to family and friends, dating back to 2010, were proven defamatory through electronic evidence not contested by the defendant. The plaintiff had originally sought Rs 25 lakh, claiming harassment, health-related issues, loss of work, and financial damages.
The couple separated in 2009, with divorce finalized in December 2021. The court condemned the woman's contradictory statements and directed her to pay Rs 15 lakh for libel and its consequences.
